5 types of hearing loss- Dr.S.Giridharan B.A.M.S., Srigiri Ayurvedic Hospital

hearing loss is classified into 5 major types first conductive hearing loss sensorineural hearing loss mixed hearing loss neural deafness central deafness so what is a conductive hearing loss from the ear hole till the stapes bone the last part of the stapes bone if sound amplification is reduced because of some reasons like wax accumulation or ear drum perforation or puss accumulation or the bones getting cracks or the bone is broken ok if sound conductivity is reduced because of these reasons for conductive hearing loss sensorineural hearing loss actually sound is a conductive mechanism whether its transfer through air whether its transfer through water whether its transfer through solid particles sound is conducted by these 3 medium ok what is a sensorineural hearing loss the word sensorineural hearing loss is most misunderstood concept the sensorineural hearing loss is nothing but if sound conductivity has some differences because of that sound is either poorly amplified or not at all amplified ok into the cochlear if a sound amplification has to have some difficulty or any differences of amplification occurs because of these status inside the cochlear that is said to be a sensorineural hearing loss sensorineural hearing loss so what is a sensorineural hearing loss imagine a sound is conducted from this side eardrum moves and then it is amplified to the bone and then to the cochlear inside the cochlear the sound has to travel inside the perilymph and then endolymph and then over the hair cell and then it has to come outside via the perilymph part of the cochlear through the round window part of the cochlear so in this process if some differences occurs because of sound amplification is reduced and the signal is poorly formed or not formed that is said to be a sensorineural hearing loss i keep on encouraging patient to ask question on a what is types etc either to me or other doctors just to make them enlightened to know what is what sensorineural hear loss is nothing but a sound amplification getting reduced inside the cochlear so that causes the clarity issues the patient used to say that i sense the sound but the clarity is not there i can able to sense the sound what you people used to think hearing loss is a type if a patient thinks that if he has hearing loss thinking that he don’t hear anything its not the case actually they will be hearing the sound but clarity will be missing ok. sensorineural hearing loss is not a neural hearing loss in case it is a neural hearing loss even a thunder sound or boom blast sound one can’t able to sense so that is the issue here don’t get carried away by the words it is sensorineural hearing loss you have to put hearing aid it is a nerve issue you have to put hearing aid you have to take this tablet to strengthen the nerve the problem is not with the nerve then why should i take the medicine nerve strengthening tablets so that people has to think on it don’t get carried away that you have to do it immediately you have to buy hearing aid immediately or the don’t believe in such stuffs which are unscientific using hearing aid will further put pressure over the cochlear and further reduces the capacity that is the issue here third condition i’m talking about is mixed hearing loss if patient is having conductive hearing loss and sensorineural hearing loss that condition is said to be a mixed hearing loss fourth condition is called neural deafness imagine that there is a switch here having a circuit and there is wire and there is bulb if i on the switch current passes through the wire and makes led bulb is on so if switch is off current is not going to passing the wire and bulb not going to on that is the scenario so switch is on but the wire has been cut if wire is cut what happens the current doesn’t passes so bulb doesn’t burn same way the neural deafness is a condition where the nerve part have some obstruction or the cut that is called neural deafness 5th part is central deafness imagine the same circuit here again there is a switch here wire is there in place and the bulb is attached if bulb is having a ignition issue the bulb is having some problem same way if i on the switch current passes the wire but bulb doesn’t work in that condition the same way the hair cells move and create sound same way the wire sends the signal to bulb but bulb not in a position to burn the same way if problem in the auditory part of the brain that is called a central deafness the last two conditions neural deafness or central deafness in our hospital have no treatment at all but for neural deafness modern medicine has a treatment ABI auditory brain stem implant in the neural deafness in the nerve cut or in condition like the cochlear is not at all formed or cochlear is poorly formed conditions such an treatment option is advised so in case someone says it is that nerve problem and in case someone says it is a nerve issue and tries to advice you to say that you have to use hearing aid you straight away ask them if it is a nerve issue how can simple amplification of sound can able to help because a hearing aid doesn’t bone work its work is to amplifies the sound just an amplification of sound is not going to help in any form if nerve is having an issue i have already said its a neural deafness even even thunder sound one cant able to hear but you have done successful treatment under abi it is possible but in case if it is neural deafness no hearing aid is going to help you in any way so dont put all the eggs in one basket and say that sensorineural hearing loss is a nerve problem conductive hearing loss is a nerve problem its not like that ok if someone tries to hurry you up or force you to take decision just stand away from them think provide some time to you enlighten and take a meaning full decision after all we are the one who going to decide so for example imagine a fellow is having a leg pain he goes to a doctor sir from morning i have a leg pain doctor without testing anything he just says ok you cut your leg he has said does the patient will cut the leg because doctor said know is it necessary no first you check your leg what type of problem why it came how it came what are the available solutions take an informed decision not only putting the word by a doctor’s mouth is going to be the a highest word its not like that take a decision which is informed decision try to ask the question yourself or your doctor that is very essential in case if there is a single mark of sound conductivity in the audiogram it is not a neural deafness a single mark any mark either bone conductivity and air conductivity if patient hears something as a sound you can straight away say its not a neural problem you hear something as a sound it is not a neural problem that is the situation here we have to understand about the issue if someone says it is a neural problem and you have to use hearing aid please ask them sir kindly give a medical declaration stating the same that i am having neural problem but they cleverly they write it as a sensorineural hearing loss they may say anything in oral when its come to medical declaration they never give because they are entitled to answer for that so neural deafness is different sensorineural hearing loss is different i used the word correctly sensorineural hearing loss conductive hearing loss mixed hearing loss it is a hearing loss amplification is reduced here i use the word neural neural deafness central deafness that is different hearing loss and deafness entirely different try to understand about the condition don’t get hurried away and don’t get carried away by the statements that use the hearing aids etc the hearing loss is totally a 5 types conductive hearing loss sensorineural hearing loss mixed hearing loss neural deafness central deafness try to understand what is the condition central deafness and neural deafness are less than one percentage it is very rare
