Ayurvedic Detoxification with Dr. Kulreet Chaudhary – vpk by Maharishi Ayurveda

Detoxification has always been one of
the hallmarks of Ayurvedic medicine in preventing disease and for treating
existing disease. The concept of Ama, which is basically just the toxins that
accumulate in your body, is considered to be one of the root causes of why an
imbalance can turn into a disease process. And although detoxification has
always been important in Ayurvedic medicine, it has never been so critical
as it is today. We are now exposed to so many new synthetic chemicals, a hundred
thousand new chemicals made by man, meaning they’re new to nature, our bodies
have never been exposed to them before. Additionally the foods we eat are filled
with preservatives, additives — also new to nature meaning our bodies have never had to deal with these chemicals before. One of the most important organs in the body for removing Ama, i.e. the toxins that accumulate in our body, is the liver. The
liver is a central organ for actually binding toxins in the body and making
them less toxic and making them excretable through the kidneys as well as through the
gut. And one of my favorite herbs to use to help support the liver in this
enormous task, especially in today’s society, is Guggul. Guggul has a number of actions, one of them includes increasing the expression of a group of enzymes, in the liver, called the cytochrome p450 enzymes and they are the
most critical set of enzymes for removing toxins from the body. And my
favorite way of using Guggul is in Elim-Tox-O. The reason why? It’s such a
gentle formulation of Guggul so I can start almost any patient on it. And I use
in two different ways. I’ll often times use it as a step two in the
detoxification process. Step one is typically helping to improve agni and
removing toxins through the colon with the use of Triphala. And then step two,
to introduce Guggul in the form of Elim-Tox-O The second way I use it, is
as part of a seasonal detoxification program in which I’ll combine Elim-Tox-O
with Genitrac as well as Digest Tone. And with the combined action of
the herbs patients will get a slightly stronger detoxification. Spring would
be a great time to do that type of a cleanse.
