Change the Outcome – Antibiotics

When treating a child with pandas I’m
trying to address the underlying infection. So the initial treatment is to
try to get rid of the strep in the body. The mainstay of treatment that I’ve used
is antibiotic therapy, the children are put on the antibiotics for for 4, 8, 12
weeks, 16 weeks. If they do improve probably run
it a little longer to make sure it stays good and then wean it down and then hope
that the antibodies die down and any problems with the basal ganglia will go
away because the antibodies went away. There are many different antibiotics
available that do treat different strains of strep, however, I find that
some children respond better to one type of antibiotic than the other. So if I put
a child on a type of medication and we’re just not seeing the response that
I would expect to see it’s possible that the particular strain of strep they have is not
responding to that treatment so we would make a switch in the medication you
