Could magnesium hydroxide be absorbed via skin and cause hypermagnesemia?

Ellie says, “Could magnesium hydroxide be
absorbed via skin?” I don’t know. I genuinely don’t know. “I’ve been applying milk of magnesia as a
deodorant alternative in spray form for a few years now, and it works well, but I’m
concerned about I might be hypermagnesemic, as I’m having low pulse, low blood pressure,
and frequent bowel movements.” Okay, yeah, you might be hypermagnesemic. You should measure your magnesium status,
for sure.

  1. Coconut oil works great as a deodorant as 50% is lauric acid which is antibacterial, can even add some drops of personal choice essential oils. Low blood pressure can be caused by dehydration (drink more water) or low sodium levels (up your salt intake).

  2. Magnesium oil is magnesium chloride and absolutely can be absorbed through the skin, so I expect magnesium hydroxide would react similarly. I use it to quickly relieve muscle cramps from not keeping up with my normal magnesium intake when on a LCHF / ketogenic diet.

  3. The answer is 'yes'. The women in my family have a problem with magnesium sensitivity. Too much and we get the symptoms of Mg overdose very fast. It's really bizarre. (On the flip side, we require much more potassium than usual. All of us are on potassium supplement prescriptions)

My daughter and i tried the milk of magnesia deodorant and both of us went down within a week. It was frustrating because we didn't figure it out for another week. That was not pleasant.

  4. Not unless you have an underlying health issue. I use it for deodorant and brushing my teeth, I take magnesium supplements and soak my feet in magnesium chloride. Most people don't come close to getting enough magnesium. So unless you have a specific health issue a little bit under your armpits everyday isn't even close to the RDA.

  5. I use homemade colloidal silver, been using it for all kinds of infections and use it daily for spray deodorant. Works great!
