How to Lower Uric Acid Naturally High levels of uric acid in the blood, also
called hyperuricemia, can result from either increased production of uric acid in the body
or decreased excretion of it through the kidneys. It can further lead to problems like gouty
arthritis, kidney stones and renal failure. Factors that can contribute to a high uric
acid level include a diet high in purines (purines are broken down into uric acid),
excess alcohol consumption, renal insufficiency, obesity, underactive thyroid, genetics, diabetes,
acidosis, and certain other diseases. There are some tips and natural remedies that
can help reduce and control uric acid levels. 1. Apple Cider Vinegar Being a natural cleanser and detoxifier, apple
cider vinegar can help remove wastes like uric acid from the body. It contains malic
acid that helps break down and eliminate uric acid. Add one teaspoon of raw, organic, unpasteurized
apple cider vinegar to a glass of water. Drink this solution two or three times a day. You can gradually increase the amount of apple
cider vinegar up to two tablespoons per glass of water and continue this remedy until your
uric acid levels come down. 2. Lemon Juice Though it may seem that lemon juice will make
the body more acidic, in actuality, it produces an alkaline effect and helps neutralize uric
acid. Plus, its vitamin C content also helps lower uric acid levels. Squeeze the juice of one lemon into a glass
of warm water. Drink it in the morning on an empty stomach. Continue for at least a
few weeks. 3. Cherries Cherries and dark berries contain chemicals
that help reduce uric acid levels. Eat one-half cup of cherries daily for a few
weeks. You can also drink one or two cups of tart cherry juice for about four weeks. For even better results, add blueberries,
strawberries, tomatoes and bell peppers to your diet. 4. Baking Soda Baking soda, is highly beneficial for lowering
uric acid levels and reducing gout pain. It helps maintain the natural alkaline balance
in the body and makes the uric acid more soluble and easier to flush out of the kidneys. Mix one-half teaspoon of baking soda in a
glass of water. Drink up to four glasses of this daily for
two weeks. You can drink it every two to four hours. Do not take this remedy on a regular basis.
Also, do not take this remedy if you suffer from high blood pressure. People age 60 or
older should not drink more than 3 glasses per day. 5. Olive Oil Most vegetable oils turn into rancid fats
when heated or processed. The rancid fats destroy the vital vitamin E in the body, which
is essential for controlling uric acid levels. Opt for cold-pressed olive oil rather than
using vegetable oil or butter. Olive oil contains monounsaturated fats, vitamin E and antioxidants
and has anti-inflammatory benefits. 6. Water Drinking plenty of water helps optimize uric
acid filtering. It helps dilute the uric acid and stimulates the kidneys to eliminate excess
amounts from the body through urine. Drinking adequate water regularly can reduce
the risk of recurrent gout attacks. Drink at least eight to 10 glasses of water
throughout the day. Also, include more fluids and fresh, water-rich
fruits like watermelons, strawberries and tomatoes, and vegetables like cucumber, lettuce

Ninety percent of tap water in what's left of America is "fluoridated" (poisoned) with fluorosilicic acid, containing about 23% sodium fluoride (man-made rat poison), mercury, lead, arsenic, cadmium, barium and polonium.   6. Excellent information. I've been drinking fresh squeezed lemon juice every morning one hour before having breakfast. I didn't know if was great for reducing uric acid. Ginger is my favirite drink. I add water ginger and lemon into my blender. Squeeze and strain the ginger. Add a teaspoonful of bicarbonate and drink it. Then I add hot water into the squeezed ginger (never thrown away) and drink it. Nothing is wasted.

  7. I was diagnosed with gout two years ago. But between a regular doctor and an orthopedic surgeon, i was offered basically two solutions – take a medication to control my uric acid (for the rest of my life) and drain the fluid from my knee every month ( i assumed for life too).

    Both just did not make sense to me. So I read everything i could about gout on the internet and came to this conclusion – if i keep eating the way I always have, I will have gout until it kills me.

    So I decided 1. to change my diet drastically to avoid purine rich foods. 2. drink at least 1-2 liters of (purified) water and 3. lower my weight (slowly) from 75 kilos (165 lbs) to 60 kilos (130 lbs)

    Now, at 140 lbs, I have no "active" gout. I can indulge some "bad" foods when I get the urge, but when my gouty knee tingles I quit and it goes away.

    Btw, I quit drinking and smoking when i was 40 years old.

    Trying to "cure" gout is not the way…changing your eating habits is the way.

  8. I keep my olive oil and cider vinegar in the frig. The oil will tend to become somewhat solidified. So I run the bottle under hot water just long enough to liquefy the amount I need to use. The olive oil and the cider vinegar can be used to create a nice personal recipe vinegar/oil dressing, with favorite herbs, etc.

I am a medical student and I have hyperuricemia, I don’t take medication(Colchicine, Allopurinol), my daily meals consist mainly of vegetables ,fruits, dairy items and grain products, twice a week I eat one boiled egg (runny yolk ) and once a week at one meal I eat a side of meat of my choice (to avoid anemia) ,I feel good, my joints don't hurt ,I don't have headaches anymore and my foot pain has vanished. The food that helped me the most is: lemon, fresh raw pineapple(!! it's the best),avocado, apples,kiwi,plums, pomelo, pears, cherries(especially during flares), peaches, blackberries,broccoli, parsley, celery , carrots, cucumbers, red onion, tomatoes, bell peppers, lettuce ,zucchini, squash ,pumpkin , watermelon,honeydew melon, green beans, cinnamon,black currants(you can use both the berries and the dried leaves to make  tea!),coconut,nettle or red orach soup, coffe(black and green), curdle milk(very good!!) , yogurt, acid curd cheese, skimmed milk . The food that rises the blood levels of uric acid is: cabbage,cocoa(chocolate!!), chickpeas,lentil , dried beans, soya,mushrooms  ,ginger,  radish, beetroot,peas, spinach, peanuts(especially Cashew), pine nuts ,quinoa, quince, cauliflower , green/black tea,alcohol and all kind of meat , including sea food and fish. Cabbage, fish ,ginger  and chickpeas rise the uric acid really fast. Potato, rice and wheat products don't raise u.a. blood levels but neither do they  lower them. Avoid gelatin or anything that contains gelatin( gummy bears,jello puddiing), the quinces are high in pectin and they are not good in gout. If you can not refrain from eating meat, the least harmful choice for you is chicken breast because is lean meat and in my 5 year experience  I realized it rises the uric acid the least (ratio portion required 🙂 ) It is very important to stay hydrated, to help the renal epuration of the uric acid and prevent renal calculi formation and renal colic! Start drinking tons of liquids: mostly 100%natural juices (NO sugar or artificial sweeteners added like fructose which is better to avoid consuming), vegetable soups(at least one meal per day should include a side of soup), compotes and water. You can use honey as a natural sweetener, but make sure it is 100%natural,if you can, try to buy it directly from the beekeeper.
    Also ,you can consume raw, unsalted pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds  and walnuts, they contain lots of minerals and are good in gout.
    In atacks you can take Phenylbutazone  or Indomethacin suppository( hope you can get without prescription, at least one of them) , it relives pain,it is nesteroidian anti-inflammatory medication, but first check the contraindications, don't take more than 3 suppositories per day and don't use it more than 4 days if you don't have medical prescription .You can also use  anti- inflammatory oyntment to apply locally on the affected joint. In gout attacks you can apply beaten raw cabbage leaves on the affected joint and wrap it loosely in clingfilm and then use a piece of cloth to keep the bandage in place, the pain will slowly go away, be patient and work carefully so that you don't cause more pain,this is an external remedy, cabbage is not good as food in hyperuricemia.
    Here is a recipe for apple compote: I boil a stick of cinammon with 2 kilograms of apples cut in small pieces in 3-4 l water for 25 minutes, I throw the stick of cinnamon afterwards; it tastes great, doesn't need any sweeteners, I even add lemon juice to it , but if you like it sweet you can add honey, you can store it in the fridge for about 4-5 days. If I don't have cinnamon sticks I use 1/2 a spoon of ground cinnamon. It gets me full and boosts my metabolism. Though, those of you that have gastric pathologyes should be careful ,cinnamon is quite iritative on the stomach mucosa.

In one study in 2004 (published in the New England Journal of Medicine) they came to these conclusions: "We did not find a significant association between gout and the consumption of purine-rich vegetables, either as a group or individually. The variation in the risk of gout associated with different purine-rich foods may be explained by the variation in the amounts and types of purine content and their bioavailability for purine-to-uric-acid metabolism. It has been suggested that moderation in dietary purine consumption is indicated for patients who habitually eat large amounts of purine-containing foods, of either animal or vegetable origin; however, our results suggest that this type of dietary restriction may be applicable to purines of animal origin but not to purine-rich vegetables.". Their studies indicates that moderate consumption of vegetables with high purine is ok, but high meat and seafood consumption increases the risk of gout.   15. Do not consume baking soda. It will cause fermentation in the blood and if taken with vinegar it is much worse.
