Inside Look: Ayurvedic Sciences Program

The Ayurvedic Program is now being taught at many different schools in the USA but Bastyr program is the only university degree granting program in this country that is regionally accredited program. This program is heavily oriented towards clinical applications of Ayurvedic philosophies and concepts and they start doing the clinical observation at the Bastyr Center for Natural Health. They get involved and exposed to the clinical assessment techniques so that when the students complete the program they are trained to go out and help patients in clinical settings. They go through about eight clinical shifts and almost 340 hours of clinical training The current Ayurvedic program is a hybrid module. Students have to do quite a bit of studies online on their own and then they come one weekend a month which is kind of a long weekend starting Thursday through Sunday. This is when they’re here physically present and the faculty who’s involved they do many hands on courses, lab courses, and the clinic shifts during that time. After their second year after finishing in a clinical rotation here the students would be electing to go to India for doing their clinical rotation in India and this is a university center where the students are there for a little over two weeks. In India Aurveda is being practiced as a mainstream medicine. We are able to do wide clinical range of therapeutic applications of Ayurveda. As a result that students not only get the experience they’ve amounted here, but they also get to know a lot more clinical conditions because of just sheer volume of the number of patients are being seen in that part during that time I
