PCC’s Professional Herbalism Program

Those look pretty good. This Calendula Marigolds are just classic a great to know about. Calendula
supports the health of the digestive tract, wonderful remedy to make as tea or
soup. I just find that plants offer so much potential for healing. Herbalism is the
use of healing plants to help people stay healthy and get healthy if they’re
not healthy, it’s a huge field that includes everything from the overlap with
nutrition healthy foods really there’s no definition for what a specific
healing herb is so when you eat a green pepper you’re using a healing
plant that could be part of herbal medicine up to much more substantial
powerful herbal medicines that you might get at the health food store to treat a
wide variety of conditions that people experience. The professional herbalism program at
Portland Community College is a two-year program for which people receive a
certificate of proficiency that aligns with the standards of the American
Herbalist Guild. We train people as clinicians so that they understand
exactly what’s going on in the human body and how to use herbs to stay
healthy. The herbal world is just bursting open
with possibilities for people, natural healing has really become mainstream in
the last few years so we teach people assuming that they’re going to have a
practice consulting with people and helping them get well, ways to empower
their lives to stay healthy but really the field is huge. Jobs include writing about herbal medicine,
writing books, writing magazine articles, writing technical kinds of articles.
Researching, being a scientific researcher in a lab, working for a
company that produces herbal medicine for the manufacturer, you could open a
retail store, you could work in a retail store, you could be involved in import or
export where you develop products or somehow facilitate those products to get
out into the international market. You could own a manufacturing company where
you formulated the products or facilitated the products coming together
to be sold in a health food store or herbal store, health food section of the grocery
store or something like that. I’ve done just about every possible thing
in the herbal medicine world and the thing that I really gravitate towards is
teaching. I really feel like it’s my mission to help
people understand these things and how well they can act, bring these ideas into
our culture so that people can have an everyday understanding of how to use
them. Literally every part of your body can be benefited to be healthier by
using herbal medicine.
