Rep. Slaughter Announces $436,000 award to RIT to Research Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria

Rochester Institute of Technology is receiving
a major grant to help combat the problem of drug resistant bacteria. Microbiologists at RIT have known about the
dangers of antibiotic resistant diseases for years, as many doctors have. They say the drugs have been over prescribed
and overused, leading to resistant bacterial strains like CRE. Today, Congresswoman Louise Slaughter, who
is a microbiologist herself, announced the National Institute of Federal Medical Sciences
has awarded more than $430,000 to RIT with the hope of developing medicines that can
defeat these dangerous super bugs.
