TechTalk: The Impact of 3Shape Splint Studio Recieving 510(K) Clearance

(electronic tinkling) – We’re very excited being
one of the two cleared splint materials here in the US. The software package works
great with KeySplint Soft, and we’re very excited that
they’ve gotten their clearance because now users have a
workflow that they can rely on. I think the design piece, every piece in this
digital workflow matters, there’s all sorts of
places in this workflow, from design to, from
image capture to design, to set-up to fabrication, to
post-processing to polishing. Every step along the
way is really important. The design part of it is
critical, and frankly, I think it’s for years what
held back digital dentures, was there were not really great denture software design modules. In the last couple of years
they’ve improved greatly. PMMA discs and mills have
been around for years, but it really took the software package and the design packages to catch up. So I think it’s critical. You really can’t do the digital workflow without an excellent design
package and a competent designer to know how exactly to design a splint or a denture or a crown. Those technicians who
work in the digital space are artists and it’s just
like traditional guys who work at the bench. They have real skill that
they’ve developed over time, in a digital space. So I honestly, I think it’s critical to have a really good design software, because if you don’t
have a good image capture and you don’t have a good design, it does not matter how good your mill is, it does not matter how
good your printer is, it does not matter how
excellent your splint or denture base or other material is. If it’s, you know, not to be crass, if it’s crap in, it’s crap out, okay? So if you don’t get a good image capture and you don’t get a good design, you’re not gonna be
satisfied with the results, regardless of what digital
technology you use. So again, every step in that
process is really important, including the design phase. (electronic tinkling)
