Tridoshas in Ayurveda — Vata, Pitta and Kapha

Vata, Pitta and Kapha are three doshas in Ayurveda. Doshas are the main factors that govern all the internal functions
that are carried out in the human body. Each of the three doshas has its own duties to
be performed at various sites in the system. Kapha is responsible for giving strength required to perform
work and to resist decay and degeneration. Therefore Kapha represents all the constructive works ingested. While defining and analysing similar duties performed by the Pitta, it can seen that the dosha is responsible for disintegrating or
distractive functions that take place in our body. The duty of the Vata humor is to maintain balance in the psychological
activities of the other two doshas keeping itself in tune with them. When all the tridoshas perform their respective duties in a balanced manner, we say that the person is in a healthy
state or enjoying ‘wasthyam’ (well being). The physician, at the time of diagnosis finds out the cause illness and he decides what therapeutically interferences are necessary for its restoration.
